Tematik is a pedagogical approach in education in which teaching and learning are organized around central themes that connect multiple subject areas. In tematik, knowledge, skills, and attitudes are developed through integrated activities that link language, mathematics, science, social studies, art, and physical education to a common theme. Themes are usually chosen to reflect local contexts and student interests, and learning often unfolds through inquiry, exploration, and problem solving.

In practice, tematik emphasizes student-centered learning, collaboration, and real-world relevance. Lessons are designed to show how concepts relate across disciplines, supporting deeper understanding and the ability to apply what is learned in new situations. Tematik has been widely used in elementary and early childhood education in Indonesia and in other Malay-speaking contexts, where curricula commonly organize content around themes such as environment, culture, community, or scientific phenomena. The approach aims to promote holistic development, language proficiency, critical thinking, and civic awareness.

Critics point to challenges in implementation, including the need for substantial planning, teacher collaboration, and coherent alignment across subjects, as well as access to appropriate resources. When these conditions are met, tematik can support integrated learning and a more contextualized educational experience.
