Teksterän is a small coastal community located on the southern shore of Sweden’s Göta Sund, with a population of just over 650 residents. The settlement’s name is derived from the old Swedish terms “tekst” meaning “text” and “rän,” a reference to a nearby estuary that historically supplied the area with silt and sediment. The village developed during the 1840s as a modest shipbuilding hub, where carpenters fashioned small wooden fishing vessels that were exported throughout the Baltic region. By the 1860s, Teksterän had gained a reputation for the “Teksterän Chronicle,” a semi‑annual publication in which local writers and journalists recorded maritime news and community events, making the village an early center of regional journalism.
