The role of a tehohoitolääkäri involves a broad range of medical expertise. They manage patients with severe organ failure, such as respiratory, cardiac, or renal failure, as well as those recovering from major surgery, severe trauma, or sepsis. Tehohoitolääkärit work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, which includes nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other medical specialists.
