The fungal bodies of teatrijaads grow underground, producing characteristic, dense networks of branching, matted mycelium. These underground fruiting bodies, known as matted pods, resemble miniature, compact clusters of fingers. They are typically around 1-3 centimeters in length and weigh up to 2 grams.

Teatrijaads typically fruit in late summer and early autumn, producing their characteristic orange-brown, powdery caps on the ground surface. The fruiting bodies are usually scattered and solitary, although they can occasionally be found in small clusters.

Teatrijaads are known for their relatively simple growth habits and short lifespans. For this reason, they are often used in scientific research, particularly in the fields of taxonomy and ecology.
