Tarkibining is a term used in some Southeast Asian linguistic and cultural studies to refer to the act of tarkib—the process of composing, arranging, or combining elements into a unified whole. The form tarkibining functions as a gerund or nominalized verb, meaning “the act of composing or assembling.” The root tarkib comes from Malay and Indonesian usage for composition or arrangement and is related to broader concepts of gathering and synthesis.

The term is applied across diverse disciplines, including traditional crafts, music, poetry, architecture, and culinary arts. In practice, tarkibining describes how disparate motifs, materials, or ingredients are deliberately integrated to achieve coherence or a specific aesthetic effect. For example, in poetry it might denote weaving imagery from different ecosystems into a single verse; in cuisine it could refer to fusing flavors from multiple culinary traditions into a cohesive dish.
