Tapos is a common word in Filipino (Tagalog) used to express completion or finish. As an adjective or adverb, it indicates that something is done or over, as in Tapos na ang palabas (The show is over) or Tapos na ako (I’m finished). In everyday speech, tapos also appears in phrases that signal completion of a task: Tapos na ba? means “Is it done yet?” and Tapos na yun can mean “That’s done.”

In addition, tapos functions as a conjunction in colloquial Filipino to mark sequence, roughly equivalent to “and then” or “after that” when narrating events: Una nag-aral kami, tapos lumabas kami (First we studied, and then we went out). The term is informal and most common in spoken Filipino; in formal writing, speakers may prefer natapos, nagwakas, or other more formal expressions.

Tapos can combine with pronouns and other particles: tapos na ako (I’m finished), tapos na sila (they are finished). It is widely understood across Filipino-speaking communities, though its tone and formality can vary by region and context. While primarily a native Filipino word, its everyday usage reflects the language’s reliance on concise, context-rich particles to indicate completion and sequence.
