Tanduttaget is a dental procedure that involves removing a tooth from its socket in the jaw. It may be performed as a simple extraction of a tooth that is visible in the mouth or as a surgical extraction when the tooth is impacted, broken below the gum line, or requires removal of surrounding bone.

Indications for tanduttaget include non-restorable decay, severe periodontal disease, irreversible tooth damage after trauma or failed endodontic treatment, crowding or orthodontic reasons, and the presence of an impacted tooth that causes pain or infection. The procedure is usually planned with radiographs to assess tooth anatomy and surrounding structures.

Contraindications can include uncontrolled systemic illnesses that increase surgical risk, severe infection or lack of patient cooperation, and certain medical conditions or medications that require special management. In some cases, risk must be balanced against potential benefits, and the procedure may be postponed or adjusted.

The procedure typically begins with a clinical assessment and informed consent, followed by local anesthesia. In simple extractions, the tooth is luxated and removed with dental forceps after minimal bone removal. Surgical extractions may require reflection of the gum tissue, removal of bone, or sectioning of the tooth before removal. Postoperative suturing may be used in some cases.

Postoperative care focuses on minimizing bleeding and infection and managing pain. Patients are advised to bite on gauze, take prescribed analgesics, avoid smoking, eat soft foods, and maintain oral hygiene without disturbing the extraction site. Rinsing and vigorous mouth movements are usually avoided for 24 hours.

Common complications include dry socket (alveolar osteitis), infection, prolonged bleeding, damage to adjacent teeth, and rare nerve or sinus injury. Healing typically progresses over days to weeks, with bone remodeling continuing for several months.
