Takla Makan Desert is a large desert region located in the western part of China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. It is one of the largest and driest deserts in the world, covering an area of approximately 270,000 square kilometers.

The desert is named after the Taklamakan River, which flows though it.
