Taajuusrajan, often translated as frequency limit or cutoff frequency, is a term used in signal processing and electrical engineering to describe a specific frequency point in a system's response. It signifies the boundary where the system's behavior changes significantly, typically regarding the amplification or attenuation of signals.

In the context of filters, a taajuusrajan is the frequency at which the output power of the filter is reduced to half of its input power, or equivalently, the voltage is reduced to approximately 70.7% (or 1/√2) of its initial value. This point is also known as the -3 dB point. Frequencies below the taajuusrajan in a low-pass filter are passed through with little attenuation, while frequencies above it are significantly attenuated. Conversely, in a high-pass filter, frequencies above the taajuusrajan are passed, and those below are attenuated.

For band-pass filters, there are typically two taajuusrajat: a lower and an upper cutoff frequency. These define the band of frequencies that the filter allows to pass through with minimal loss. The region between these two frequencies is known as the passband.
