Süntaktseid (syntactic constituents) are the building blocks of sentence structure in linguistics. They are subparts that combine hierarchically to form larger units. Constituents are groups of words that function as a unit within a larger phrase or clause and can often be replaced or moved as a unit within a sentence.

Common types include noun phrases (NP), verb phrases (VP), adjective phrases (AdjP), prepositional phrases (PP), and clauses (CP). Constituents are identified using tests such as substitution (replacing a group with a pronoun or a pro-form), standalone fragments, or movement (wh-movement), and by examining their behavior in different syntactic environments. The notion of constituency underpins most phrase-structure theories, where sentences are represented as trees with hierarchical nodes corresponding to syntactic categories. In X-bar theory and related frameworks, larger constituents are built from smaller ones in a uniform way.

Different grammatical theories may formalize Süntaktseid differently. Dependency grammar, for instance, emphasizes relationships between heads and dependents rather than flat phrase structure. Cross-linguistic research uses the concept of constituents to compare word order flexibility, extraction possibilities, and prosodic phrasing across languages.
