A perfectly reflective surface, on the other hand, has an emissivity of 0, absorbing and emitting no radiation.

The emissivity of a real object is dependent on the material, surface roughness, temperature, and the wavelength of the radiation. For example, a polished metal surface typically has a low emissivity, while a dull or oxidized surface has a higher emissivity. This difference is why a shiny pot on a stove heats up slower than a dark one.
