Säkerhetsrådet is the Swedish term for the United Nations Security Council. This principal organ of the United Nations is charged with the maintenance of international peace and security. It is one of the six principal organs of the UN, established by the UN Charter in 1945. The Security Council has the unique power to make binding decisions, known as resolutions, that member states are obligated to implement.
