Szabadrúgás is a Hungarian term referring to a free kick in sports, most commonly association football (soccer). It is awarded when a foul is committed by a player against an opponent. The opposing team is then allowed to take a kick from the spot where the foul occurred. The player taking the szabadrúgás is permitted to kick the ball directly into the opponent's goal, provided it is not an indirect free kick. Opposing players must remain a minimum distance, typically 10 yards (9.15 meters), from the ball until it is kicked. This distance is often enforced by the referee, who may instruct opponents to form a "wall" to block a direct shot.
