Sujuvaks are a class of autonomous, modular micro-robots designed for monitoring and intervening in aquatic ecosystems. They are deployed in swarms to collect environmental data, trace pollutant plumes, and perform targeted remediation tasks with minimal human oversight. The concept emphasizes low-powered operation, reconfigurable payloads, and resilient communication in dynamic water environments.

Each sujuvak has a hydrodynamic chassis, sensor payloads, and a propulsion system. Standard sensor suites monitor temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity, turbidity, and common contaminants. They communicate via mesh networks and are coordinated by decentralized algorithms that allow robust operation if individual units fail. Power comes from compact batteries with optional solar charging for surface units, and energy scavenging for others.

Sujuvaks are designed to be deployed from research vessels, docks, or shore stations and can operate autonomously or under supervisor control. Typical missions include continuous water quality mapping, tracing pollutant sources, collecting water and sediment samples, and delivering microscale aeration or neutralizing agents. Limitations include regulatory constraints, potential ecological disruption, sensor reliability in turbid conditions, and the need for retrieval or end-of-life disposal.

Development has progressed through academic–industrial collaborations, with several variants optimized for surface and submerged operation. Ongoing work focuses on durability, autonomy, and data integration, while governance frameworks address environmental impact and data privacy.
