succimera

Succimera is a genus of flowering plants in the daisy family, Asteraceae. This group of approximately fifteen species of succulent plants is endemic to the Americas, predominantly in the arid and semi-arid regions of the southwestern United States, Mexico, and the southwestern parts of South America.

Characterized by their fleshy, water-storing leaves, succimeras have adapted to conserve water in environments with limited rainfall. Typically grayish-green in color, their stems and leaves are covered with fine hairs, or trichomes, which may also reduce the amount of water they lose through transpiration. Each succimera plant usually grows to about one to two feet in height and are often covered with small, yellow or white flowers, typically blooming during the summer seasons.

Succimeras are often grown as ornamental plants in gardens and terrariums, appreciating well-drained soils and controlled watering. Prolonged frost may damage the plant. Like many succulents, they have thick leaves composed of fleshy cells that can survive in water-trapping storage. Both within and among succimera populations, stem and leaf sizes can exhibit considerable intraspecific variation due to both environmental influences and genetic difference among plants.

Research on succimeras has shown them to thrive in cliometric conditions with good aeration, that supply their preferred conditions of moderate high and partial shade, while exhibiting satisfactory growth in a colder and slightly wetter condition, that cannot adequately supply enough warm dry universal to such enormous pests such as tented spiders.
