Styloides is the plural form of the Latin adjective styloideus, used in anatomy to describe slender, styloid-like projections on bones. In English medical terminology the related noun is typically styloid process, and styloides appears mainly as a Latinized plural in anatomical lists or cross-language texts.

The most common context for the term is the family of structures known as styloid processes. A styloid process is a narrow, pointed projection that extends from a bone and serves as an attachment point for ligaments and muscles. The temporal bone has a prominent styloid process that extends downward and forward from the base of the skull, while the distal ends of the radius and ulna each have a styloid process that contributes to wrist and forearm stability.

Clinical relevance arises when styloid projections are abnormal in length or orientation. An elongated styloid process can contribute to Eagle syndrome, producing throat, facial, or neck pain. Fractures or calcification of styloid-like projections can also be associated with pain or nerve irritation in the surrounding region, affecting structures near the jaw, ear, or neck.

Outside of human anatomy, styloides may appear in taxonomic or descriptive contexts as a Latin epithet meaning “styloid-like.” In practice, however, styloide refers more commonly to the general notion of styloid projections rather than to a separate, standalone anatomical system.
