Stylistiky refers to the study of style in language and texts, exploring how word choice, syntax, rhythm, and rhetorical devices shape meaning, tone, and perception. In many Slavic languages the term appears as stylistiky (a plural or related form to stylistika/stylistyka), with the corresponding field known in English as stylistics. The focus can be both linguistic and literary, examining how language functions within different contexts.

The scope of stylistiky covers multiple levels of analysis. Phonology and phonetics look at sound patterns and delivery; morphology and syntax study how forms and sentence structure contribute to style; lexicon and figurative language analyze diction, metaphor, and idioms. Discourse structure, narrative voice, genre conventions, and situational context are also central. Research may be descriptive, detailing how a particular text or author uses style, or comparative, contrasting styles across authors, periods, or genres. Corpus-based methods and stylometry are increasingly used to quantify stylistic features and support interpretation.

Applications of stylistiky include literary analysis, language teaching, translation, and editing. In forensic linguistics, stylistics techniques can assist in authorship attribution and document examination. The field intersects with rhetoric, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and general linguistics, highlighting how social factors, purpose, and audience influence stylistic choices. Examples include identifying an author’s habitual devices, examining narrative stance, or assessing how style conveys satire, irony, or authority in a text.
