A Studiomusiker, or studio musician, is a professional musician hired to perform on recording sessions rather than as a permanent member of a band or for live tours. The term is common in German-speaking contexts; in English-language contexts the equivalent is the session musician. Studiomusiker are contracted by recording studios, producers, or labels to contribute instrumental performances on tracks, albums, film scores, or advertisements, usually on a per-session or per-track basis and often as freelancers.
