Stofzak is a bag designed to collect dust and fine particulates produced by cleaning devices, grinding, sanding, or other processes. It serves to contain dust and prevent it from returning to the environment, and it is commonly used as part of a vacuum cleaner, a dust collection system, or industrial extraction equipment. The term is used in Dutch to refer to such bags in general.

Stofzakken are typically made from paper, woven fabric, or nonwoven synthetic materials. Disposable paper bags are common in consumer vacuum cleaners and are inexpensive but can tear under heavy dust loads. Reusable fabric bags offer higher durability and can be washed and reinstalled, occasionally with an interior liner or a filter to improve dust retention. Some systems combine a bag with additional filtration, such as a lint screen or HEPA filter.

Construction varies by application. Common shapes are cylindrical or conical, with a closing mechanism at the outlet end. The bag must seal securely to maintain suction or airflow and to prevent dust leakage. The pore size and filtration efficiency determine how much dust passes through into the collector or motor housing.

Maintenance involves regular inspection and replacement. Signs of a full or clogged bag include reduced suction, increased noise, or frequent clogging. Replacement intervals depend on usage and material type, and proper disposal should follow local regulations for household or industrial waste. When handling dusty or hazardous materials, additional precautions may be required.
