stjórnmálaflokkur
Stjórnmálaflokkur is the Icelandic word for political party. A political party is an organized group of people who share similar political aims and opinions, and who seek to influence public policy by getting their candidates elected to public office. In Iceland, as in many other democracies, political parties play a central role in the functioning of the government. They nominate candidates for elections, develop policy platforms, and often form coalitions to govern.
Iceland has a multi-party system, meaning there are several political parties that actively compete for power.
