A stjernedannelsesregion, or star-forming region, is a large cloud of gas and dust in space where new stars are born. These regions are typically found within galaxies and are characterized by their significant concentrations of molecular hydrogen and helium, along with trace amounts of heavier elements. The extreme cold and density within these clouds allow gravity to overcome the internal pressure, causing clumps of material to collapse. As these clumps contract, their cores heat up. Eventually, the temperature and pressure at the center become high enough to initiate nuclear fusion, marking the birth of a star.
