Stimuloiduns are a hypothetical class of stimulus-responsive, modular organisms described in speculative biology and science fiction. The term refers to colonies that can transduce environmental stimuli into usable energy and information, enabling adaptive, collective behavior without centralized control.

Morphology and organization: Individual units, called stimuloids, are compact modules with a flexible outer cortex and a minimal internal core. Colonies form interconnected networks through adhesive junctions; growth proceeds by incorporation of new stimuloids at the edge, producing irregular, often sheet-like structures.

Physiology and information processing. Each stimuloid reacts to local cues through simple sensor arrays. Information is distributed across the colony via local signaling and diffusion, producing emergent computation that guides movement, division, and differentiation without a central nervous system.

Ecology and behavior. Stimuloiduns inhabit environments with dynamic gradients of light, chemicals, and temperature. They exhibit collective responses such as coordinated migration, boundary formation, and sectoring of tasks. Under strong stress, colonies may retract activity or fragment.
