stilistische

Stilistische is an adjective used in German and Dutch to denote a relation to style. In German, stilistische is used to modify feminine singular and plural nouns (for example, die stilistische Analyse, die stilistischen Merkmale) and is formed from Stil (style) with the suffix -istisch and the appropriate inflection. In Dutch, stilistische similarly means stylistic and is used before nouns to indicate a connection to style (such as de stilistische analyse, stilistische middelen).

In linguistics and literary studies, stilistische terms describe features that shape the overall style of a text. This includes choices in diction, syntax, figurative language, and rhetorical devices, as well as how these elements vary by genre, author, or historical period. A stilistische Analyse examines how linguistic and stylistic choices create voice, tone, and expressive effect, and may compare stylistic traits across texts or languages.

The concept is often contrasted with terms such as stil or Stijl (style) and the field of stylistics (Stilistik). It is also used in discussions of translation, where stilistische differences between source and target texts help explain variations in tone or register. While the term is most common in German- and Dutch-language scholarship, its general idea—an analysis of style and stylistic features—appears across many languages and disciplines.
