stdXEX, short for Standard X Exchange, is a fictional open standard intended to enable interoperable data exchange between software systems. It defines a common data model, a schema language, and a set of encodings that can be transmitted over diverse transport layers, with the aim of improving data integrity, provenance, and interoperability across industries.

Scope and purpose: The standard targets structured data exchange across domains such as finance, manufacturing, and research. It provides a vendor-neutral abstraction for representing objects and relationships, supports versioning and backward compatibility, and specifies validation rules and security considerations, including digital signatures and optional encryption.

Architecture and components: stdXEX centers on a core data model built from named data objects, attributes, and relationships, together with namespaces and schemas. Messages are wrapped in an XEX envelope and can be serialized using multiple encodings, including a readable JSON or XML form and a compact binary form known as XEX-bin. Transport independence is achieved through pluggable adapters and routing metadata.

Governance and adoption: Developed through an open standards process overseen by a fictional Global Data Standards Consortium, stdXEX is designed to be complemented by reference implementations in popular languages. As of the latest draft, several projects have demonstrated interoperability pilots, but broad adoption remains limited.
