Spójnikami, often translated as conjunctions, are a category of words in linguistics that serve to connect words, phrases, clauses, or sentences. They are essential for creating coherent and grammatically correct discourse, allowing for the expression of relationships such as addition, contrast, cause, effect, and time.

In Polish grammar, spójnikami are broadly categorized into coordinating and subordinating conjunctions. Coordinating conjunctions link elements of equal grammatical rank, such as two nouns, two verbs, or two independent clauses. Examples include "i" (and), "a" (and/but), "ale" (but), "lub" (or), and "albo" (or). Subordinating conjunctions, on the other hand, connect a dependent clause to an independent clause, indicating a hierarchical relationship. Common subordinating conjunctions are "że" (that), "bo" (because), "ponieważ" (because), "chociaż" (although), "jeśli" (if), and "kiedy" (when).
