Sporofiton is a term that appears in a limited portion of botanical literature to denote a reproductive body or tissue that bears spores in certain algae or non-vascular plants. The word is derived from Greek elements meaning “spore” and “plant,” and in some sources it is treated as synonymous with or as a component of the sporophyte within life-cycle theory. In contemporary mainstream botany, the term is not widely used, and many authors prefer terms such as sporophyte, sporangium, or sporophyll to describe the corresponding structures.
