Spooktocht, literally "ghost tour," is a Dutch-language term used for two related types of autumn-holiday activities centered on spooky experiences. In everyday use it most commonly describes a neighborhood tradition in which children, accompanied by adults, move along a short route to visit houses and receive small treats, typically around Halloween or the days nearby. Participants usually wear costumes, and residents participating in the event hand out candy or other small gifts.
