In computer science, sparsity is a common characteristic of real-world data. For instance, in recommender systems, user-item interaction matrices are often sparse because a user typically interacts with only a small fraction of available items. Network data, such as social networks or the internet, also exhibit sparsity, with most nodes not directly connected to each other.
