This is achieved by ensuring that the impedance of the source is the complex conjugate of the impedance of the load. Without proper matching, a significant portion of the signal energy can be reflected back towards the source, leading to signal loss and potential damage to components.

These circuits are crucial in various electronic applications, particularly in radio frequency (RF) and microwave engineering. Examples include connecting antennas to transmitters or receivers, linking different stages of an amplifier, and interfacing transmission lines with active devices. The goal is to present a load impedance that appears to the source as its conjugate, thereby absorbing all incident power.
