Somethingmosts is a term used in cognitive science and data analysis to describe the set of items within a category that are judged to be the most representative under a specified evaluative criterion. The term is used when categories display substantial internal variation and a single prototype fails to capture their diversity.

Definition and formal use: Given a domain X and a scoring function f that assigns a real value to each item, the somethingmosts are the items x in X that maximize f(x) (or that exceed a chosen threshold). The collection of all maximizers forms the somethingmosts for that domain and criterion. If multiple items achieve the maximum, the somethingmosts are plural.

Characteristics: They are context-dependent, can vary with the chosen criterion or dataset, and may change with sampling. They acknowledge multiple best exemplars rather than a single “most typical” item. They are distinct from prototypes in that the criterion can be defined in various ways and may not be anchored to human intuition alone.
