solventbonding
Solvent bonding is a method of joining materials, typically plastics, using a solvent. The process involves applying a solvent to the surfaces of the materials to be joined. The solvent selectively dissolves a small amount of the plastic, creating a softened, semi-liquid state. When the two softened surfaces are brought into contact and held under pressure, the dissolved plastic molecules from each surface intermingle and form new molecular bonds as the solvent evaporates or is absorbed. This fusion results in a strong, monolithic joint.
The choice of solvent is critical and depends on the type of plastic being bonded. The solvent
