Slipgieten is a ceramic manufacturing process used to create hollow objects or complex shapes. It involves pouring a liquid clay mixture, known as slip, into a porous mold, typically made of plaster. The plaster mold absorbs water from the slip, causing a layer of clay to solidify against its inner surface.

Once a sufficient layer has formed, the excess slip is poured out of the mold, leaving a hollow form. The mold is then left to dry further until the clay has become firm enough to handle. At this stage, the object can be carefully removed from the mold.

The process allows for the mass production of identical items and is suitable for producing thin-walled pieces. It is commonly used in the production of sanitaryware like toilets and sinks, as well as decorative ceramics and tableware. The composition of the slip and the porosity of the mold are critical factors in achieving successful results. After demolding and drying, the object is typically fired in a kiln to achieve its final, durable state.
