slickwater
Slickwater is a type of fracturing fluid used in hydraulic fracturing, a process commonly employed in the oil and gas industry to extract hydrocarbons from shale formations. Its primary characteristic is its low viscosity compared to traditional fracturing fluids which typically contain a high percentage of proppant. Slickwater fluids are formulated with water and a small amount of friction-reducing additives, such as polyacrylamide polymers. These additives are designed to reduce turbulence within the fluid as it is pumped downhole.
The reduced friction allows the fluid to be pumped at higher velocities with less pressure. This higher
Slickwater fracturing is often favored in formations where tight rock structures require smaller, more numerous fractures.
