slibepapir, or sandpaper, is an abrasive material made of abrasive grains bonded to a flexible backing. It is used to abrade and smooth surfaces in woodworking, metalworking, plastic fabrication, and automotive refinishing. Sandpaper can be found as sheets, rolls, or discs for manual or machine sanding.

The abrasive grains are typically aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, or ceramic. Aluminum oxide suits wood and metal finishing; silicon carbide is sharper and preferred for hard materials and wet sanding; ceramic grains offer long life for demanding tasks. Grains are bonded to paper, cloth, or film backings with a resin- or phenolic-binder.

Grit sizing follows standardized scales. The FEPA P-scale (for example P40 to P400) and the CAMI/ANSI scale define grain size; higher numbers indicate finer grit. Coarse grits remove material quickly; medium grits smooth; fine to very fine grits prep finishes and paint surfaces.

Types include dry (resin-bonded) paper and wet/dry forms that tolerate water. They come as sheets, rolls, or discs; many discs use hook-and-loop mounting or pressure-sensitive adhesive for quick changes and dust-extraction perforations in sanding sheets.

Safety and disposal. Use protective equipment to guard against dust and debris; work in well-ventilated areas. Old or clogged paper should be replaced. Used sandpaper is typically treated as general waste, with recycling options varying by material and local regulations.
