Skuddsäkring is a Swedish term that denotes protection against gunfire. The word combines skott (shot) and säkring (safety or securing), and it is used to describe both safety features on firearms and protective measures that reduce vulnerability to bullets in built environments and equipment.

In firearms, skuddsäkring refers to safety mechanisms intended to prevent accidental or unintended discharge. These include internal safeties such as firing-pin blocks and sear blocks, as well as external safeties like manual safety levers or grip safeties. Safety systems may be designed to require deliberate action to fire and to render the trigger or hammer incapable of releasing a round in non-firing conditions. The exact configuration varies by firearm type and manufacturer.

In ballistic protection contexts, skuddsäkring covers materials and construction used to resist bullet penetration. This includes bulletproof glass, reinforced walls, vehicle armor, and personal protective equipment made from ceramics, high-performance fibers (such as aramids), polyethylene, steel, or composite layers. Standards and ratings, such as EN 1063 for glass or NIJ levels for body armor, help define performance expectations and suitability for specific threats.
