Skivlås (literally "disk lock" in Scandinavian languages) is a class of mechanical lock that uses a series of rotating discs (or tumblers) instead of traditional pin tumblers. Each disc has a gate or notch; when a correctly shaped key rotates the discs to the proper angular positions, the gates align and allow the locking mechanism to turn and release. The design is commonly known in English as a disc detainer or disc tumbler lock.
