Situationproperty, or situation property, is a theoretical term used in philosophy of language, semantics, and artificial intelligence to denote a property that applies to a situation rather than to a particular object. A situation is a concrete context or state of affairs that includes participating objects, events, times, and the relations among them. A situationproperty P holds of a situation S when, in that context, P is true.

Examples include being in a crowded room, being under a deadline, or the weather being rainy in London at 3 PM on a given day. These properties are contrasted with intrinsic properties of objects, such as red or tall, which do not depend on a surrounding context. Situation properties therefore capture contextual or time-dependent aspects of reality.

In semantics, situation properties help formalize how the truth conditions of statements depend on context. They are central to dynamic or contextualist theories and to event semantics. In artificial intelligence and planning, they model preconditions and effects that arise in a given situation rather than for a single entity.

Debates concern ontological status: whether situation properties are primitive features of situations or higher-order properties of predicates. They are also related to the notion of state of affairs and to contextualism in philosophy. Applications include natural language understanding, multimodal perception, and legal reasoning, where facts are contingent on time and place.
