Situasjonstilnærming, often translated as situational approach, is a management and leadership concept that emphasizes adapting one's style to the specific needs of a situation and the individuals involved. Key to this approach is the understanding that different situations require different leadership behaviors. A leader might need to be more directive in a crisis or with a new employee who lacks skills and confidence. Conversely, in a situation where a team member is highly skilled and motivated, a more delegative or supportive style might be appropriate.

The core of the situational approach involves diagnosing the situation.
