These beings are believed to inhabit ancient burial mounds, hills, and other natural sites.

The nature of the Sithe varies in different tales. They can be benevolent protectors, capable of bestowing blessings and protection upon humans, or they can be mischievous, dangerous, and even malevolent. Their interactions with humans often involve trickery, temptation, and sometimes abduction. Stories frequently describe them as possessing great beauty, wisdom, and magical powers, including the ability to influence weather, create illusions, and travel between worlds.

The Sithe are not always portrayed as small, winged fairies. In many older traditions, they are depicted as tall, ethereal beings, sometimes even appearing as beautiful mortals or shadowy figures. They are often associated with music, dancing, and feasts, which can lure humans into their realm, from which they may never return. Offerings of food and milk were sometimes left out for the Sithe to appease them and gain their favor. The belief in the Sithe has significantly influenced Irish culture and continues to be a prominent element in folklore and literature.
