A simkaarttype, often referred to as a SIM type, designates the physical size and electrical interface of a subscriber identity module (SIM) card used in mobile devices. The primary purpose of a SIM card is to authenticate a subscriber on a mobile network, allowing them to connect to services. Over time, SIM card dimensions have evolved to accommodate increasingly smaller and more integrated mobile devices.

The most common SIM card types, listed from largest to smallest, are the Mini-SIM, Micro-SIM, and Nano-SIM. The Mini-SIM, originally the standard, measures 25 x 15 millimeters. The Micro-SIM, introduced to save space, is smaller at 15 x 12 millimeters. The Nano-SIM, currently the smallest widely adopted standard, measures just 12.3 x 8.8 millimeters. Each of these types shares the same electrical contacts and functionality, differing only in their physical plastic enclosure.

In addition to physical size, some devices may utilize eSIM technology. An eSIM, or embedded SIM, is a digital SIM that is integrated directly into the device's hardware. Instead of a physical card, users download carrier profiles to the eSIM. This eliminates the need for a removable SIM card and allows for easier switching between carriers or managing multiple lines on a single device. The choice of simkaarttype is determined by the device manufacturer based on available space and design considerations.
