silicadust
Silicadust is a generic term describing fine particulate matter dominated by silica, or silicon dioxide (SiO2). It can consist of crystalline silica—such as quartz, cristobalite, or tridymite—or amorphous forms. Silicadust is produced whenever silica-containing materials are broken, cut, ground, blasted, heated, or otherwise processed. It is common in mining, quarrying, stone finishing, glassmaking, ceramics, and construction, and can become airborne as a respirable fraction small enough to penetrate deep into the lungs.
The respirable fraction of silicadust poses the primary health risk. Prolonged exposure to respirable crystalline silica
Regulation and safety practices aim to limit worker exposure. Occupational exposure limits for respirable crystalline silica
In short, silicadust covers a range of silica-containing dusts generated in industrial settings, with crystalline forms
