Signatario is a term used in several Romance languages to denote a signatory: a person or entity that signs a document. It is commonly applied to the party that affixes its signature to a treaty, agreement, or contract. Depending on the jurisdiction, a signatario may be an individual, a company, a state, or an international organization.

In international law, signatories of a treaty or convention are the states or organizations that have signed the instrument. Signing expresses an intention to comply and to proceed toward ratification or accession, while the binding effect of a treaty typically arises upon ratification or later accession. A signatory state or organization is often listed as a party to the treaty and may gain certain rights to participate in negotiations or access texts and related materials. The roster of signatories can change as new parties sign or as accessions occur.

In civil contexts, signatario refers to the person whose signature appears on a document, indicating consent or obligation. This usage appears in contracts, financial instruments, and notarized records. Some legal systems distinguish between the signatario (the signer) and witnesses or notaries who verify signatures and signer identity. The term’s feminine form is signataria in languages that mark gender.
