Sessionstörningar, also known as sleep disorders, are conditions that affect the quality, timing, or amount of sleep. They can significantly impair daily functioning and quality of life. Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder, characterized by difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early, leading to inadequate sleep. It can be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term). Hypersomnia, on the other hand, is characterized by an excessive need for sleep, often leading to sleep attacks or excessive daytime sleepiness.

Parasomnias are a group of disorders that involve abnormal behaviors or experiences during sleep, such as sleepwalking, night terrors, and sleep paralysis. Circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders involve disruptions in the body's internal clock, leading to sleep at unusual times or having trouble sleeping at the desired time.

Sleep disorders can have various causes, including stress, poor sleep habits, underlying medical conditions, and substances such as caffeine or alcohol. They can also be a symptom of other conditions, such as mental health disorders or neurological diseases.

Treatment for sleep disorders depends on the type and severity, and may include lifestyle changes, cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), medication, and in some cases, medical procedures such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy for sleep apnea. Early diagnosis and treatment can help improve sleep quality and overall health.
