Senkten is a fictional ceremonial rite central to the cultural system of the Velari, a civilization created for world-building and speculative fiction. The term denotes a rite of passage that marks the transition from adolescence to adulthood.

In Velari, senkten combines elements translated as “breath” and “path,” signifying a passage through a communal breath-based ritual. The practice is described in Velari tradition as dating back several centuries, with the earliest formal descriptions appearing in clan chronicles and later in scholarly works within the in-world setting.

The rite is conducted in a circular chamber designed to acoustically amplify a leader's chant. Participants lie or sit in a defined posture and perform a structured sequence of breathing cycles aligned with a ceremonial count. A ritual leader recites verses that guide emotional and moral intent. Completion of nine cycles is often marked by the invitation to receive a token, such as a luminous bead, indicating readiness for new responsibilities.
