sayujya

Sayujya is a Sanskrit term meaning union or becoming yoked with. In Hindu philosophy and devotional literature, sayujya-moksha refers to a form of liberation in which the individual soul (jiva) attains identity with the Supreme, losing separate individuality.

In many Vaishnava and Vedantic contexts, liberation is described as one of several possible outcomes for a devoted soul. Classic lists of moksha forms often include salokya (residence in the Lord’s realm), samipya (nearness to the Lord), sarupya (having the same form as the Lord), and sayujya (unity with the Lord). Sayujya denotes a state where the devotee is not experienced as distinct from the divine, effectively merging with the Supreme.

Different traditions interpret sayujya in varying ways. Some schools treat it as the supreme or most complete form of moksha, emphasizing the ultimate realization of nonduality. Others view it as a loss of personal agency or individuality, which can be seen as less desirable from a devotional perspective that prizes ongoing relationship or personal form in the divine.
