Sargam refers to the solfège syllables used in Indian classical music. These syllables are Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, and the ascending scale repeats Sa. They are analogous to the Western solfège system of Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, Do. The specific pitches assigned to these sargam syllables vary depending on the raga being performed. They are not fixed absolute notes but relative to the tonic, known as the Shadja (Sa).
