sanctiona
sanctiona is a genus of small, soft‑bodied invertebrates within the phylum Mollusca, class Polyplacophora. The genus was first described in 1998 by malacologist Dr. Maria Alvarez in the Journal of Malacological Research following the discovery of a distinctive species in the Gulf of Mexico. Members of this genus are characterized by a dorsally convex carapace with eight articulated plates, a narrow foot, and a unique radular tooth arrangement that differs from other concha-like molluscs. The type species, sanctiona maritima, measures no more than 12 millimetres in length and exhibits a translucent shell with faint pale bands.
Distribution of sanctiona is currently limited to shallow marine environments between latitudes 20°N and 30°N, predominantly
Taxonomically, the genus falls under the family Glypaxidae and is closely related to the genera Cyanoplax and
