Samdrætti is an Icelandic term used to describe a form of collective action among landowners to manage drainage of agricultural land. The word combines sam- meaning “together” with drætti, a form related to drainage, and it is used for arrangements—either informal agreements or formal entities—that coordinate the construction, maintenance, and operation of drainage systems serving multiple properties. The aim is to prevent water accumulation, improve land usability, and reduce costs through shared investment and economies of scale.

Organizationally, samdrætti arrangements can take the shape of cooperatives or contracts among neighbors.
