Sith refers to a fictional species and their associated dark side philosophy within the Star Wars universe. Originally a species of red-skinned humanoids, the Sith encountered a group of Force-sensitive exiles from the Jedi Order. These exiles, driven by their desire for power and control, manipulated and enslaved the native Sith species. Over time, the exiled Jedi adopted the name "Sith" and integrated aspects of the native species into their lore and appearance.

The Sith philosophy is fundamentally rooted in the dark side of the Force, emphasizing emotions like anger, hatred, fear, and passion as sources of strength. This contrasts sharply with the Jedi's pursuit of balance and control through peace and detachment. Sith Lords, the leaders of the Sith Order, typically seek to dominate the galaxy through conquest and the subjugation of others. Their power is often manifested through aggressive Force abilities, including Force lightning and manipulation. The Sith are often depicted as being in a constant state of internal conflict and betrayal, with apprentices typically seeking to overthrow and kill their masters to claim the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith. This internal struggle is a core tenet of their ideology, often referred to as the "Rule of Two," which dictated that there should only ever be two Sith at any given time: a master and an apprentice. This rule was designed to prevent the infighting that had historically weakened the Sith Order.
