A säädinsignaali, or control signal, is a signal used in control systems to influence the behavior of a process or device. It is generated by a controller and transmitted to an actuator, which then manipulates the physical system. The purpose of the control signal is to drive the system towards a desired state or to maintain it at a specific setpoint.

Control signals can take various forms. Analog signals are continuous and can represent a range of values, such as voltage or current. Digital signals, on the other hand, are discrete and represent information in binary form, typically as a series of pulses or a specific data format. The type of control signal used depends on the specific application and the capabilities of the controller and actuator.

In a feedback control system, the control signal is often determined by comparing the actual output of the system to the desired setpoint. The difference, known as the error signal, is then processed by the controller to generate an appropriate control signal. This closed-loop operation allows the system to automatically correct for disturbances and maintain the desired performance. Examples of control signals are found in thermostats regulating room temperature, cruise control systems in vehicles, and industrial automation processes.
